Big Ideas, Real Impact
Savannah always had the heart of a philanthropist, just not the wallet. Had she had the chance to fulfill her career dreams, I have no doubt she would have spent half her salary on strays, veterans, and the homeless. She always thought of others before herself. That is why we started the foundation. We want to continue her passion for these causes. We first want to provide financial assistance to other students pursuing the same degrees she did. We believe through doing this we will enable more people to contribute to the issues Savannah had a heart for, by assisting others in pursuing their degrees.
We do not intend to stop with scholarships though. We want to find ways to contribute to and help with the fight to improve the lives of strays, veterans, and the homeless in our hometown. All fundraisers are for the sole purpose of funding these missions. The only monies not paid directly to a scholarship or cause will be the costs associated with holding the fundraisers.
Photo Contest
The photo contest will begin every spring and run through August 9th. Savannah loved the renewal of nature in the spring. This year the contest will focus on landscape photos, no people in them. The fee is $20 per photo entered. There are three categories: Professional, amateur, and under 18. The contest will be judged by three local artists. The winning photo from each category will receive $100 cash prize, as well as have their photo in The Sentinel Record. An Art Show to give exposure to all entrants is in the works. Check back for information on date and time. All applicants must sign a photo release, giving the foundation the right to reproduce their photo and use for promotional purposes.
Costume Contest & 5K walk/run/stroll (Pets Welcome)
Everyone who knew Vanna, knew how much she loved Halloween. She loved the costumes and the fun. She was always up for a good excuse to dress up for a theme. We are working on organizing a 5K run/walk/stroll in Hot Springs for Halloween of 26. We have found a paved pathway for the 5k without any significant inclines or descents. Since Vanna loved children and animals, among other things, we encourage moms with strollers and those with animals to participate. There will be a costume contest with multiple categories, as well as prizes for three fastest finish times for multiple age categories. This is a labor intensive and fairly expensive undertaking. Any donations to help fund the 5K would be greatly appreciated. Any volunteers for working the 5K, please go to the Volunteers tab and send us a message. We want to remember Savannah and help fund her mission all at the same time. More specific information will be forthcoming. Check back regularly!
